Lors de sa mission [Marūtha de Maypherqaṭ] fut magnifiquement récompensé. Car le roi [Yazdgird Ier], dont la joie était au-delà de toute description possible, s'était proposé de répondre à toute requête ou souhait que Marūtha aurait pu exprimer. Cependant, refusant toute récompense matérielle, Marūtha exprima le désir de voir la paix entre l'empire perse et l'empire romain.

Analyse du passage

‘Abd Allah Ibn al-Azraq al-Fāriqī précise que l'extrait relatif à l'évêque Marūtha serait la traduction d'un texte retrouvé dans l'église melkite de la cité. À la suite de G. Amanatidis-Saadé, on peut supposer qu'il pourrait s'agir potentiellement de la même hagiographie syriaque qui inspira les différentes Vies de Marūtha, ce qui confèrerait au Ta'rikh Mayyafariqin un certain degré de fiabilité.
