[trad. éd. Marcus p. 69] [arm. éd. Łewond p. 32] And it came to pass after the death of these kings that Kawād (Kawat), the grandson of Yazdgird, collected his armies and came into the territory of the Greeks, to the city of Maypherqaṭ, to take it. And the inhabitants of the city were in dire straits, and because of the danger which threatened them they determined to give the cup of gold, filled with gold, for the deliverance of the city, the same which his [Kawād's] grandfather had given as a gift to the blessed Marūtha. And when it was brought before the king, and he read the name of his grand-father which was written upon the cup, he wept and said: “Far be it from me to take the memorial of my fathers, or to do evil to this city. But let there be friendship and peace between me and the city [all] the days of my life.” And he returned in peace to his own land; and the city and the whole land were delivered [trad. éd. Marcus p. 70] and saved from their evil fate.” And they recognized and knew that through the intercession of the saints who were gathered there, and of the blessed Marūtha, the Lord had wrought the salvation of the city and the land. And to him who delivereth and saveth them that hope and trust in him be praise now and forevermore and for all eternity. Amen.

</text>
