Lettre manuscrite de Frank Brangwyn à Léonce Bénédite, sur papier à en-tête « Temple Lodge, Queen Street, Hammersmith » [Musée Rodin D73] Français Lettre manuscrite de Frank Brangwyn à Léonce Bénédite, sur papier à en-tête « Temple Lodge, Queen Street, Hammersmith » [Musée Rodin D73]

My dear Mons. Bénédite,

A friend of mine, Mr K. Matsukata, is making a huge collection of works for a Gallery of European Art in Japan. He is a Japanese gentleman, is one of the largest shipbuilders of that country, and a member of one of the most noble families in Japan.

It is of the utmost importance that this Gallery, which will be a Public Gallery should be complete for as it is the first thing of its kind done in the East it will have a very marked effect upon their culture.

Mr Matsukata wishes to procure one or two fine large copies of Rodin. Can you help to get him something? The prices here are stupid and the works not of Rodin’s best. It is an International matter and if you could get the French Government to allow one or more copies to be published he will pay any price in reason.

Would you like to have a collection of my lithographs to add to the etchings? When the road is safer I will add to the collection some drawings which I have.

Hoping that you keep well and that I may hear from you.

Believe me my dear Mons. Bénédite

Yours sincerely

Frank Brangwyn
