Dear M. Benedite,
We have duly received your letter of the 26th instant and note what you write. As a matter of fact, Mr. Matsukata deposited with us a large sum of money (much more than 1,200,000 francs) but this deposit was for his purchases not only from you but from various artists and picture dealers, and his deposit has been used up already for pictures and other things. Consequently we shall have to refer to Mr. Matsukata for any new payment. We think everything will be alright as soon as he authorizes us to make payment and so soon as we receive reply for him, we shall be pleased to approach you.
Meantime,
We remain, dear Sir,
Yours faithfully
