Dear Sir,

This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of January 19th.

I don’t understand what Mr Matsukata means about the 100.000 frcs, which he says to have sent this summer. More than a year ago, he sent 100.000 fr to Mr Bénédite, without saying for what purchase he did so. Mr Bénédite then wrote several times to him asking what he as to do with them, as he had then the opportunity of buying interesting works for Mr Matsukata. He got no answer. After his death, end of May, Mademoiselle Bénédite wrote to Mr Matsukata asking him about this money and all what concerned the pictures. She had no answer ; then, last November, she wrote again to Mr Matsukata, telling him to what purchases the 100.000 fr had been affected and that he was still owing to Rodin museum from 300.000 to 400.000 fr for the balance of the “Gates of Hell” and of other works he had ordered.

All pictures purchased in Denmark are at the Rodin Museum. We are now expecting Mr Matsukata’s answer to Melle Bénédite’s letter before taking any decision for the sending of Mr Matsukata’s collection to England or Japan. It will be very easy to do so when we know exactly what he wants to be done.

Please tell him all these explanations and that no money has ever been received since Summer 1924.

Believe me, Dear Sir, Sincerely yours,
