March 24th 1956 Dear Jean,

I am in Royal Eye Hospital Manchester. I have had an operation on my eye and I have been here about 10 days.

The operation was quite successful and I may be going home in a few days.

Thank you for all the letters. Most of them came at opportune moments to cheer me up.

How is Germaine? What a wonderful woman she is!

I am so pleased to hear of the arrival of ClaireClaire Paulhan, fille de Frédéric et Jacqueline Paulhan, née en décembre 1955.. What a nice little card announcing it. I congratulate Jacqueline.

I will not be able to write for some time until they make me spectacles.
