Mythologiae libri decem, Francfort, André Wechel, 1581
This expanded edition, the second published by Conti (he probably died in 1582), is dedicated to Giambattista Campeggi, the Bishop of Majorque. The text was proofread by Friedrich Sylburg (in Greek) and Johannes Opsopoeus (in Latin) at the behest of André Wechel. Both correctors amended Conti's faulty text considerably, and Conti expressed his thanks to Sylburg in a letter dated December 3, 1581, published for the first time in the 1584 edition of Mythologiae libri (Francfort).
He named Sylburg as godfather (compater) of the work.
In the 1581 edition, Sylburg nonetheless expressed his doubts on certain Greek fragments that Conti claimed to have discovered.
An edition of Mythologiae libri was published that same year in Venice, still signed with the fountain mark. The Venetian edition must have come after that from Frankfort am Main : it combined certain of Sylburg's conjectures published at the end of Conti's text at the printer Wechel (Gysembergh, 2020).
Apart from the 10 books that make up Mythology, this edition encompasses the treatise on hunting by Conti (De Venatione), in verse and in four songs. This treatise had been edited for the first time in 1551, which is why it was mistakenly concluded that the first edition of Mythologiae libri dated back to 1551 (Ford, 1998).
