*** Présentation de la collection :

Four editions of the Mythologiae libri and their French translation were illustrated: Paris, 1612 (attr. Pierre Eskrich); Padua, 1616 (Filippo Ferroverde) + Padova, P. Frambottus, 1637; Paris, 1627 (Daniel Rabel, Charles David and Michel Lasne).

These three series are derived in various ways from illustrations produced for Vincenzo Cartari's Imagini degli degli Antichi :

• the engravings used in 1612 and 1616 are re-uses of woodcuts published respectively in Lyon (1581 then Paris 1610) and Padua (1615) for Cartari's text.
• the plates produced in 1627 under the direction of Daniel Rabel were inspired by the Lyon and Padua series, with the addition of other models.

All these engravings are presented here, from the copperplates produced in Venice in 1571 for Cartari's first illustrated edition, to the plates for the 1627 Paris Mythology.
