M. Zola
Dear Sir,
This is from a student many miles from the stir and life of the great capitale, but he does not hesitate to express to you his sincere admiration for you and your works.
[mot illisible] reading works by Zola.
Zola _ mystic priest of violet truth.
Thy law is man,
Thy theme his acts.
O mighty humanitarian.

The diocese in which we feel the inspiring magie of thy voice
[unfurled,
The sad, sick area of th world.
To rank charlatanism
[ rakes the glowing
[ embers of thy creed
Or blows them into forced false flame.
Slow but welle thy gospel
[creeps the rudy truth
[of Duty's name,
Spreading its sweet
[light over the famished
[ plain
Like beautious (sic) blooms
That waft an ugly seed ;
The world's acts, the life
[of crimeful man

Such is the tribute I am bold enough ro send to you.
Regard it as you will, but receive at least as the sincere oppression of the gratitude of one who has been aided by your powerful art.

Yours sincerly,
R. T. Rundle P. Milliken.
