Dear M. Zola,

I want you to see that there is at least one faithful, honest Christian in England who has the courage to speak the truth about these un-christian wars of aggression. I do wish you would write and than sir Steffer Sanson.
I am disgusted at the way they have been treating you lately, in France. Nobody on earth could make me believe that you were at fault.
But you knew before that there is no such thing as "justice" in the world in the law, in the church, or anywhere else.
Anyone who tries to do right must expect to pay a severe penalty (as Mark Twain so truly says, "Be good, but you will be lonesome !"). But it will pay in the end M. Zola. _ Do not doubt it ! Even if they steal every dollar you possess I would rather be in your shoes that theirs.
Always yours most sincerely.
